  • 1 on 1 (50 mins) = $100

  • Duo Sessions (70mins) = $85 per person

  • Group Sessions (80mins): Max 4 students = $75 per person

Storytelling With Sensory Activities Class

The objective of this class is to enhance problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, fine motor abilities, and social skills in children through construction play and sensory activities. Reference the plan below to gain a sense of what the class strives to accomplish. This study plan aims to provide a structured approach to building with blocks and engaging in sensory play, ensuring that children, especially those with learning disabilities, develop essential skills in an enjoyable and supportive environment. Regular reflection and adjustments based on children's needs and interests will enhance the effectiveness of this learning experience.

  • Languages Offered = English, Korean, Spanish

  • Age Group = Adults & Children

  • Duration = Each session is 1.5 hrs, 3 sessions per week is highly suggested

    • 1 on 1 sessions = $180

    • Duo Sessions = $110 per person

    • Group Sessions: Max 4 students = $96 per person

Materials Needed

  • A variety of LEGO sets and building blocks

  • Sensory materials (sand, water, playdough, water beads)

  • Tools for sensory play (buckets, scoops, molds)

  • Presentation materials (markers, boards for project displays)

Assessment

  • -Observation: Monitor engagement, problem-solving strategies, and interaction during activities.

  • Feedback: Encourage children to share their experiences and feelings about the projects.

  • Skill Development: Use a checklist to evaluate improvements in fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and social interaction.

EXAMPLE COURSE PLAN

Week 1: Introduction to Construction Play and Sensory Activities

  • Session 1: Overview of building concepts using blocks/LEGO; introduction to different block types (e.g., size, shape).

  • Session 2: Introduction to sensory play materials (sand, water, squishy toys) and their benefits.

  • Session 3: Hands-on activity: Create a simple structure with blocks or LEGO; engage in sensory play with sand.

Week 2: Developing Problem-Solving Skills

  • Session 1: Challenges in building (e.g., building a bridge or tower) to promote critical thinking.

  • Session 2: Sensory activity: Water play with floating/sinking objects to explore concepts of density.

  • Session 3: Group project: Collaborative building using LEGO to encourage teamwork and communication.

Week 3: Enhancing Spatial Awareness

  • Session 1: Introduce concepts of symmetry and balance; create structures that demonstrate these principles.

  • Session 2: Sensory activity: Building with different textures (e.g., fabric, foam) to enhance tactile exploration.

  • Session 3: Individual project: Build a model of their favorite place using blocks/LEGO.

Week 4: Fine Motor Skill Development

  • Session 1: Focus on small building tasks (e.g., creating intricate designs) to refine fine motor skills.

  • Session 2: Sensory activity: Use playdough to mold shapes and figures, reinforcing hand strength and coordination.

  • Session 3: Peer review: Present and discuss their individual creations with others to build confidence.

Week 5: Socialization through Play

  • Session 1: Group challenges: Build a structure collaboratively using specific guidelines (e.g., limited blocks).

  • Session 2: Sensory activity: Play with water beads, encouraging group interaction and sharing.

  • Session 3: Role-playing scenarios where children explain their building process to peers, fostering communication skills.

Week 6: Reflection and Mastery

  • Session 1: Review of concepts learned; discussion on favorite activities and skills developed.

  • Session 2: Final project: Create a large collaborative building or sensory setup, showcasing learned skills.

  • Session 3: Celebration of achievements; present projects to caregivers, promoting self-esteem and confidence.
